I rarely find music that really gets me all jazzed.  I mean, I find "cool stuff" all of the time but this is one of those things that blew me away.  AWAY!  Talk about making a splash with your first appearance on network television.  I think that I may even have a little bit of a crush...

So I went to the preview last night at St. Alfred and I must say, Gabriel's stuff is awesome!
It's kind of "future steampunk" and because of the wonderful recycled element it takes on a found art / outsider element though the idea is special and unique.  The construction, the use of materials, the integration of the kind of quirks which real sneaker heads will truly appreciate is genius.  Not to mention that after meeting him, I find him to be a lovely bloke.

As the proud owner of a pair of "Pentium Blazers" I am already a convert and yes, I've drunk the Kool-aid.


Check it out if you happen to be in town.  Jordan, the gallery owner is a pretty rad dude.  Homer, the gallery dog is a pretty rad dog and honestly, it'd make you a much better person because it's pretty cool...

A lot of people don't get it yet.  Just wait.  It really is a new benchmark.
Seriously, the applications are huge!  Everything from its already stated uses like e-book reading, photos, web browsing, and access to the entire iTunes store (apps, music, movies, podcasts...), to things which I'd really like to see happen.
JazzMutant Lemur-like controller apps for DAW's, lighting systems masters, augmented art tours at museums, inventory tracking and warehouse management for businesses, interactive theater, wireless MIDI and synth control applications, restaurant ordering and seating management.  I could go on and on but a medium form piece of portable technology which is both WiFi and 3G enabled and has the power to handle processor intensive applications and retain 64GB of data is noteworthy.  Being able to do it and look good is something to coo about.  Coo Coo...

A group of nuns have lost their fight to prevent strippers from performing at a nightclub near their convent.

"...The club's application to extend its opening hours until 0400 GMT at weekends was rejected by the licensing committee, he added.

Earlier, the nuns had joined some Uckfield residents in criticising The Broadway's plans to host "occasional exotic dancing and striptease to music".

In a letter to the committee, one of the nuns, Sister Jepson, said: "Numerous younger college students use the High Street regularly and would be aware of its activities.  Can we suppose that the dancing entertainment and films are going to be Morris Men and Julie Andrews?"

No one from the club was available for comment."

Aussie art that doesn't kangaroo

James Jirat Patradoon makes cool art. Born in 1985 in Thailand and raised in Sydney, Australia on a super-diet of cartoons, comic books, and sci-fi movies.

James' work explores his take on fantasy hyper-masculinity with portraits inspired by Japanese Manga, slasher movie villains, pro wrestlers, biker gangs, and Elvis.

His intense comic book styled images have appeared in magazines such as ESPN, Complex, Acclaim, Empty and ILOVEFAKE. As well as in collaborations with Adidas, Diesel, MTV, PepsiCo and Mambo.

Light: On The South Side

Between 1975-1977 Chicago's South Side night clubs were a little lighter. Not just because of a lanky white guy skulking about, but rather because of the camera and strobe light he carried. Michael Abramson hit Perv's House, Pepper's Hideout, The High Chaparral, The Patio Lounge, and The Showcase Lounge, not to capture the artists on stage, instead popping off a half dozen rolls every night on the crowd. Light: On The South Side gathers for the first time over 100 of these images, as Numero shines its own strobe on yet another dark corner of the past. The 132-page hard back book features photos, an ephemera section, and an essay by Nick Hornby. Housed in a gorgeous slipcase with the 12X12 book is Pepper's Jukebox, a seventeen track compilation of the kind of funky Chicago blues heard from the stage and the Wurlitizer. The deluxe 2LP set is packaged in a sharp gatefold jacket with two inner sleeves crammed to the gills with label scans and stories. All in all, it's the classiest Numero record ever made, spotted easily from across the room with it's near 2" spine. The first 1000 copies contain a limited edition bonus 45.
